Co-extruded profiles with metal: VBN’s versatility in plastics processing

The combination of different materials is one of the most effective ways to balance functionality, design, and strength. Metal co-extruded profiles are the result of this synergy: by integrating plastic polymers with metal or fabric inserts, it becomes possible to create customized components that respond to increasingly specific structural, aesthetic and production requirements.

Co-extrusion of profiles with metal

Co-extrusion is an advanced technology that enables materials with different yet complementary properties to be joined together within a single production process. Depending on the project’s requirements, various polymers and metals can be used, including aluminum, steel, copper, or other materials such as fabrics.
Metal co-extruded profiles deliver superior mechanical performance. The metal component provides rigidity and resistance to impact or bending, making these products suitable even for structural or load-bearing applications. Weight is also optimized: compared to a fully metal part, a co-extruded profile is significantly lighter, simplifying assembly, handling and logistics.
Co-extrusion further allows for a high degree of aesthetic customization. The plastic element can be selected from multiple polymers and colors and can feature glossy, matte, or textured finishes. Co-extruded aluminum, steel, and copper profiles can also be enhanced with soft gaskets, guide inserts, fastening tabs, or integrated cable channels.

Applications and sectors using metal co-extruded profiles

Co-extruded profiles made with steel, copper, aluminum, or fabric represent a technologically advanced solution. They are used across numerous sectors where aesthetics, strength and dimensional precision must coexist at a high level. By combining the advantages of each material in a single profile, co-extrusion overcomes the limitations of mono-extrusion.
In the furniture sector, these profiles are used in the development of structures for technical furniture, guides, frames and decorative elements. In the automotive industry, co-extruded profiles with copper, steel and aluminum are employed to produce reinforcement profiles, trim strips, door sills and edge profiles for doors, hoods and tailgates.
In refrigeration and industrial installations, they are used to manufacture covers, supports and finishing profiles for cells, ducts and frames that must withstand both thermal and environmental stress.
In the construction sector, they are applied in window and door profiles, ventilated facades and insulation and protective systems.
Co-extruded profiles incorporating fabrics are used in interior design to create panels, handles, frames and decorative inserts with a textile effect. In the automotive sector, they are found in interior trims, cladding profiles and aesthetic components coordinated with leather or fabric surfaces.

VBN’s expertise in co-extruding profiles with metals

Every metal profile co-extrusion project developed by VBN is the result of a co-design process and close collaboration with the customer. From material selection to profile design, each phase is managed internally to ensure precision, reliability and full quality control. Thanks to extensive experience and in-depth knowledge of different materials, VBN is able to offer tailored solutions that meet specific technical and production requirements.
VBN uses advanced equipment for the co-extrusion of metal profiles, allowing different materials to be extruded simultaneously and exit the die perfectly coupled. This technology makes it possible to produce profiles with a rigid internal structure and a flexible outer coating, or conversely, a soft core combined with a compact and highly durable surface.
